Summer Nights

T he days are invitingly long this time of year, which means these are the year’s most inviting nights.

Postcard publishers more than a century ago knew that. Of the five rare nighttime scenes in Daily Nutmeg’s vintage postcard collection, four present the city in the year’s warmest months. Only one shows it otherwise, a dusky, chilly puce blushing behind spindly barren trees.
