Whale Water

L ast Sunday, The Whale got wet—not from ocean but from rain, blasted out of the great blowhole in the sky.

Its matte dove-gray skin was made darkly shiny. Its sandy cement ridges were made muddy.

But this whale’s natural habitat is on dry land. You can see it in certain adaptations, like quick-drying surfaces and a dedicated rain spout. Not 20 minutes after Sunday’s showers stopped, The Whale was nearly dry.

So if you want to see The Whale take a swim, your surest bet is to brave a little water yourself.
