At 6:30 p.m. in Beecher Park, the Hi-Fi Pie Fest’s final concert and pie sale of the summer feature Carlos y Su Momento Musical and “freestyle” pies.
Outside the Madison Beach Hotel, a 7 o’clock Summer Storytime reading arranged by RJ Julia Booksellers promises “tasty treats on the beach while listening to a family-friendly storytime.” The reader is Abi Cushman, author-illustrator of three kids’ books and a resident of our fair state.

Starting at 6:30, a trivia night at East Rock Brewing tests local knowledge of ’90s movies.
At 7 p.m. at the Pardee-Morris House, the New Haven Museum’s fourth and final Twilight Concert Series this summer features the singing multi-instrumentalist KC Sisters and their mix of originals and covers spanning many popular genres.

Tonight, The Beatles fly again, or at least their music does. From 6 to 8 p.m. outside Orange’s High Plains Community Center (with a farmers’ market nearby from 3:30 to 7), tribute act Penny Lane plucks from the repertoire during the Orange Community Services Department’s final summer concert this year.
Saturday, August 12
Woofstock, a concert on the Branford Town Green to benefit the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, starts at noon and finishes at 6. Along with the music, expect food trucks, a “children’s area with reptile expo,” a “huge raffle,” “K9 expos” a hippie-themed dog costume contest at 2 and, before everything else, a mile-long “woofwalk” at 11:30.
The New Haven Green, meanwhile, hosts the 2023 Puerto Rican Festival of New Haven, which promises food and music—including in a VIP area—from 1 to 9 p.m.
From 6 to 9, 21 retailers, distillers and distributors converge on the Knights of Columbus Lodge in Hamden for the 2nd Annual Connecticut Bourbon and Whiskey Festival, where they’ll be serving “whiskey, spirits, cigars, and single barrel picks.” Ticket purchases, which benefit local charities, also include a buffet dinner.
At 7 p.m. today and 4 p.m. tomorrow, Madison Lyric Stage premieres Elegy for a Fallen Angel. Penned by MLS artistic director Marc Deaton, the play “explores the world of child neglect and abandonment as it intersects with a fantasy world invoked by angels and spirits of zealous beliefs in destiny, featuring new treatments of music [by] Henry Purcell and George Frederic Handel.”
Sunday, August 13
At 10 a.m. in Hamden’s Brooksvale Park, a foraging class teaches attendees “how to identify and utilize edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms that can be found this time of year,” finishing with “a walk where you will see these plants and mushrooms in their natural habitats.”
