Monday, September 7 – Labor Day
From 4 to 8 p.m., Lakeside Farm Stand (31 Lake Dr, North Guilford) is putting on a “country concert and cruise night” promising live music, classic cars, farm animals and, of course, the food stand. Free to attend.
At 6 p.m., the Western and Eastern Connecticut Area Labor Federations present a virtual “video presentation and watch party in celebration of Labor Day featuring the stories of CT workers.” Free.

Wednesday, September 9
Two online talks from the New Haven Free Public Library offer the benefit of learning from others’ experiences. First, at 2 p.m., local playwright, choreographer, director and performing arts instructor Sharece M. Sellem leads a “conversation with prominent New Haven artists as they discuss the opportunities and challenges unique to being an artist and an entrepreneur.” Then, at 7 p.m., Dr. Gerald Horne discusses his book, Paul Robeson: The Artist as Revolutionary (2016), examining Robeson’s extraordinary trajectory as a pro athlete, lawyer, polyglot, famed singer/actor and government-targeted, industry-blacklisted advocate of radical social and political change. Rest assured, folks: the 28th annual CT Folk Fest is happening, just not as originally planned. Instead of a two-day weekend festival with a stage in Edgerton Park, it’s now a four-day series of virtual concerts culminating in performances from 4 to 9 p.m. today, including by slick and sly headliner Keller Williams. $10 suggested donation per day.
