Tickets remain for “An Evening with David Sedaris” at 7:30 at the Shubert Theatre. “As always, Sedaris will be offering a selection of all-new readings and recollections, as well as a Q&A session and book signing.”
Tuesday, October 1
At 6 p.m., Yale planner Jason Hickey and landscape architect Laura Marett convene a “community conversation” over Zoom about the impending conversion of High Street north of Chapel into a “multimodal walk.” “This interactive meeting is an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share your thoughts and feedback.”
At 6:30 at Nathan Hale School, air traffic control staff at Tweed-New Haven are set to “hold a community informational session for residents affected by air traffic. The session will offer a presentation on air traffic control in New Haven to help residents better understand how air traffic works, and answer questions from the community.”
Wednesday, October 2
Legendary flamenco guitarist Paco Peña, whose many distinctions include winning a Kennedy Center Gold Medal in the Arts, being voted Guitar magazine’s best flamenco guitarist for five years straight and working as the world’s first professor of flamenco guitar, comes to Yale’s Morse Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.
The year’s final month of Movies in the Plaza screenings embraces Halloweenish themes starting at 8 in Pitkin Plaza with Death Becomes Her (1992).
Thursday, October 3
Internationally touring jam band Lotus, who in 2021 tapped local guitarist Tim Palmieri to join them, play Toad’s Place at 8 p.m.
Also at 8, Jazmin Bean, who started as a deconstructor of pop with a penchant for horror visuals but seems to have become increasingly accessible, performs at Space Ballroom in Hamden with local opener Qween Kong.

Friday, October 4
The first of four Oktoberfests this weekend actually lasts all weekend at North Haven’s Twelve Percent Beer Project. From 4 p.m. today and noon tomorrow and Sunday, organizers promise “live music, games, pretzels, sausages, dancing, and plenty of delicious BEER!”
From 5 to 10 downtown on Chapel Street, the next New Haven Night Market gathers 69 retailers, 13 food and drink vendors and 10 community organizations alongside live music, a fall-themed pet photo shoot, a game zone, arts stations and, going by past turnout, thousands of attendees.
Meanwhile, from 6 to 10, Witch Bitch Thrift presents “The Whitney Ave Haunting: A Haunted House Experience Unlike Any Other.”
Starting tonight with showtimes at 7, 8, 9 and 10, the Shore Line Trolley Museum in East Haven hosts Final Stop: Murder on the Rails, a murder mystery experience involving “thrills, theater, and a heavy dose of comedy—where you help decide the outcome in this Halloween whodunit.”

A Spring Glen Art Walk event centered at Hamden’s Best Video and Cantean Coffee “will be hosting artists from around the neighborhood” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
From 11 to 5 at ConnCAT, the fifth annual Kulturally Lit Festival holds “panels, workshops, and creative activities designed to spark dialogue and community connection” around the work and legacy of James Baldwin.
Yale’s first home football game of the season starts at noon at the Yale Bowl against Central Connecticut State.
From noon to 5, Thimble Island Brewery in Branford hosts “Craft-oberfest,” offering its craft beer alongside “local… handmade artisans… selling everything from jewelry to sea glass art.”
Over the course of two sessions from noon to 9, East Rock Brewing, “the only German-inspired brewery in CT,” hosts its fifth annual Oktoberfest. “Festive attire encouraged! Enjoy live music, German-inspired food, games, and prizes” as well as stein-holding and yodeling competitions.

Testament and Kreator co-headline a sinister, hard-hitting metal show starting with opener Possessed at 6:50 at College Street Music Hall.

A Fall Festival at Hindinger Farm in Hamden offers several food vendors, a “mobile pub,” inflatables, a petting zoo, games and more from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
At noon, West Haven’s Harugari German-American Club holds its own Oktoberfest, a club tradition that reportedly dates to 1947. Expect “German bier, food, music, dancers [and] vendors.”
At 7, Space Ballroom hosts noted comedians Chris Gethard and Eddie Pepitone. Gethard is a podcaster, author and actor who turned in a breakout guest performance on The Office, while Pepitone, though also a well-credited actor, is best-known for his standup—“an energetic combo of calm and chaos, blue-collar angst and sardonic enlightenment.”
