The Great Give, a 36-hour bonanza for local nonprofits driven by individual donors, matching donors and prizes, starts at 8:30 a.m.
At 5:30 p.m., Artspace’s annual Love Notes fundraiser offers music, refreshments and love notes in the form of “one-of-a-kind works of art.”
Meanwhile, at 6, a series of events spearheaded by the New Haven Symphony Orchestra to “celebrat[e] the musical brilliance and social impact of three exemplary Black, American women composers of the 20th Century: Florence Price, Margaret Bonds, and New Haven’s own Helen Hagan” begins with a discussion and intimate performance at Stetson Library.
At 8, with the sun well and down and weather permitting, the weekly Movies in the Plaza outdoor screening series returns with Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022).

The Gallery at mActivity opens its spring exhibition, featuring print and collage work by Karen Dow and photography by Robert Lisak, with a 6 p.m. reception.
Also at 6, the Orange Street Promenade series, located on Orange north of Crown, literally kicks off its 2023 with a community salsa dance, weather allowing.
“May the 4th be with you!” Armada Brewing says ahead of its Star Wars trivia night at 7, with 6:30 signups. “Costumes encouraged! Prizes [for] top costumes!”

Armada, Chacra, El Segundo and Vandome all have Cinco de Mayo plans. And I’m guessing Vivaz, Te Amo, Mezcal, Geronimo, Camacho Garage and Barracuda will be celebrating, too.
Also tonight, at 7:30 (and at 2 p.m. Sunday), Yale Opera presents a “fully staged production with piano, set in the late 1960s and early 1970s, of Rossini’s comic opera Le Comte Ory, in which the title character’s efforts to woo Countess Adele lead to an awkward late-night moment.”
At 9, Three Sheets hosts its next Art In The Back…Music In The Front. The artists this time are Eric Dickersin and Michael Miglietta, with music from Pyramid Rose and, releasing a record, Paul Bergmann.

Saturday, May 6
Organized by Arts & Ideas, a Fair Haven Day festival musters at 10:30 a.m. and steps off at 11 with a parade starting at Chatham Square Park, followed by an itinerary of cultural events at Fair Haven School.
The Lyman Center is a big place, so tickets still remain for “That’s My Story & I’m Sticking to It: An Evening with Spike Lee,” a 7 p.m. lecture by the famous filmmaker of Do the Right Thing (1989), Malcolm X (1992), Inside Man (2006) and BlacKkKlansman (2018), among many others.
At 7:30, the Yale Philharmonia’s final performance of the season showcases “Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, with violinist Anna Lee ’23MMA.” Whet your appetite with this excerpt from a recent show.
Also at 7:30 (and 3 p.m. tomorrow), performers with the Yale Baroque Opera Project stage a new production of Francesco Cavalli’s Doriclea—“the first Venetian opera ever to feature as its title character an Amazon warrior woman,” according to the internet—at Yale’s University Theatre.
On a 9 p.m. bill at Cafe Nine, New Haven band Killer Kin release a record of “primal rock ’n’ roll” rounded out by Fafa and The Problem With Kids Today.
