A little after 7 p.m. last Friday, the winds of change swept through Warren Haynes’s godly golden locks and the gemlike octagon his band, Gov’t Mule, was about to baptize: the Westville Music Bowl.

“It’s heavyyyyyy. Lay your burden down,” crooned frontman Haynes and keyboardist Danny Louis for the first lyric of the night, rising above Jorgen Carlsson’s probing bass line and drummer Matt Abts’s reggae beat, and the war-weary audience, taking these few precious hours of leave, happily obliged.
