Featuring tea and a talk, the speakers this time are Ray Clemens and Diane Ducharme, discussing the process behind the creation of an exhibit the pair helped curate, Making the Medieval English Manuscript: The Takamiya Collection in the Beinecke Library. Legendary music is in the air, though what kind depends a lot on where you are. At 7:30 p.m. in Morse Recital Hall (470 College St, New Haven), Yale School of Music’s ensemble-in-residence, the Brentano String Quartet, “performs quartets by Haydn and Brahms, along with a selection of German dances by Schubert and bagatelles by Webern.” At 8 p.m. at College Street Music Hall (238 College St, New Haven; 877-987-6487; $45), influential alt rock/noise pop band The Pixies headline a bill opened by emerging but kind of old-school rock/dream pop act Sunflower Bean.

Dreams are invaded tonight at the Whitney Humanities Center (53 Wall St, New Haven). Presented by the Yale Film Colloquium, it’s a 7 p.m. screening of Inception (2010), where Leonardo DiCaprio leads a tip-top supporting cast into the deepest layers of the mind. As organizers put it, the film “bends lines between real and imaginary, interior and exterior and public and private spaces.” Free.

At 5:30 p.m., the back patio at Kitchen ZINC (966 Chapel St, New Haven; 203-772-3002) is the site of a Cocktail Social. Highlighting Hartford Flavor Company’s Wild Moon Liqueurs, which come in birch, chai spice, cranberry, cucumber, lavender and rose varieties, the party includes “a tasting of 4 signature cocktails as well as snacks to accompany the drinks.” $15.
New Haven Ecstatic Dance is grooving to the fall equinox. Starting at 8:15 p.m. at Your Community Yoga Center (39 Putnam Ave, Hamden), the occasion, like all ecstatic dances, is a chance to meld meditative impulses with pulsing beats. $10.

PlazaPalooza, a block party fundraiser for CitySeed’s Food Stamp Double Value Coupon Program, takes over Temple Plaza (160 Temple St, New Haven) from 5 to 8 p.m. Featuring cocktails by Mecha, Ordinary, ROÌA and ZINC “inspired and made from seasonal ingredients from the farms of CitySeed’s farmers’ markets”—plus beer from Black Hog Brewery; finger foods made by refugee cooks and bites from local food carts; and music by DJ Connie Carmona, regular tickets cost $20 and include one drink and light fare, with “additional cocktails and beer available for purchase.”
