The Shore Line Trolley Museum’s Trolley Reading Program, happening today at 11 a.m., “provides an opportunity for children 4 to 8 years of age”—and their parents—“to listen to a story in a real trolley car.” During a ride through the surrounding salt marsh ecosystem, while “possibly seeing osprey, herons, egrets, swans and other wildlife,” a volunteer educator reads a story, “followed by time to explore the other trolley cars” kept at the museum. “Each child will receive a snack and a drink,” and families are encouraged to “bring your own lunch to enjoy at our picnic area.” Admission costs $10 for regular adults, $9 for seniors and $7 for kids ages 3 and up, with younger tots getting a free pass. 17 River Street, East Haven. At Milford City Hall (110 River St, New Haven), the area’s only photography shop, Milford Photo, is organizing a Pet Portrait Session, which is just what it sounds like. “We’ll have a portrait session setup right in front of Milford City Hall to take pics of your pet,” organizers say. Either the photographer stationed there or the pet owner—or both—can snap a couple pictures, with owners getting a certificate for a free 8×10 print “so you can print your favorite shot!” Free.

Held at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale (45 Yale Ave, New Haven; 855-464-8366), the field at the 2017 Connecticut Open women’s pro tennis tourney narrows to the quarterfinals today, beginning with a 1 p.m. session starting at $44 per ticket.
