Cafe Nine promises an 8 p.m. jolt from high-octane thrashers Killer Kin and “scuzzy dungeon rock[ers]” Satan’s Satyrs.

Knowledge of sci-fi “books, movies and TV shows” will get you ahead during a 6:30 trivia night at East Rock Brewing.

Thursday, October 17
In the week’s timeliest trivia night, Armada Brewing hosts a horror-themed session starting at 7.

At 7:30 in Woolsey Hall, the New Haven Symphony Orchestra presents historically entwined music from Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms—whose “relationship, rooted in mutual respect and admiration, inspired some of the most beautiful and heartfelt compositions in classical music”—as well as locally and regionally relevant music from Charles Ives.

Friday, October 18
A family-friendly Halloween Spooktacular from 4 to 6 p.m. at Guilford’s Nut Plains Farm invites us to “bring [our] littles in costume to trick-or-treat” and “meet the farmers!”

Saturday, October 19
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Quinnipiac’s Mount Carmel Campus Quad, a Boomer’s Boo Bash promises “a fun, spooky extravaganza, including food trucks, free activities, prizes, giveaways and candy, and photos with Boomer the Bobcat, all hosted by our Division I student-athletes.”

The Milford Artisan Market, held from 10 to 4 today and tomorrow on the Milford Green, gathers “120 local artisans who will be selling their handmade items including hand-blown glass, photography, woodworks, quilt[s] and more. The event will also feature kids’ activities, live music, food vendors and a Halloween sword demonstration.”

A Harvest Festival at Madison’s Bauer Park from 11 to 3 offers an “old-fashioned country fair” featuring “hay and pony rides, children’s crafts, apple tasting, pumpkin painting, hay maze, live music, food tent, scarecrow making, cider press, exhibitors and more!”

A series of New Haven Open Studios events this month peaks with Erector Square Open Studios, where more than 100 artists are set to exhibit their works—and for 75 of them, their workspaces—alongside special installations, musical performances and arts activities as well as a food truck and coffee/dessert popup.

From noon to 2, Kyle Driebeek leads a registration-required New Haven Preservation Trust tour of Long Wharf. “Conceived through coastal reclamation in the late 1950s, New Haven’s Long Wharf district is as much a mid-century creation as the corporate architecture which populates it. Covering the area’s history, planning and architecture, our tour group will walk the length of Sargent Drive from Marcel Breuer’s Armstrong Rubber building to the Gant Shirt factory.”

North Haven’s Legends Auto Boutique, a.k.a. the LAB, hosts its final car show and competition of the year. “Expect multiple raffles, an array of stunning show cars, merchandise, a variety of food trucks, and overall just a great time!”

At 7 back at Armada, the Haven String Quartet, Music Haven’s quartet in residence, presents the original film adaptation of Dracula (1931) while performing the soundtrack. According to a press release, “it’ll be fang-tastic! Costumes are encouraged!”

Also at 7, Branford’s Blackstone Library hosts An Evening with the Spirits featuring “whiskey, beer, wine, and other spirit tastings” plus “light refreshments,” “readings by mediums,” raffles and “so much more.”

At 9, Cafe Nine hosts the next gothy Sanctuary dance party, this time “a glow-in-the-dark tribute to the thrills and chills of the VHS era of horror” (with relevant costumes advised).

Sunday, October 20
Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Guilford’s Henry Whitfield State Museum, “Robert Lecce and Edward Dirgo of Pewter Pot Fine Spiced Chocolates will demonstrate how chocolate was made in the 1700s.”

Organized by Elm City Vet, a forthcoming veterinary clinic, and plant shop Bark & Vine, a Paws on the Promenade event on Orange Street south of Center downtown offers “a fun-filled day with your furry friends” from 11 to 4. Attractions include “pet vendors, photo ops, raffles and giveaways” as well as a pet Halloween costume contest.

A Halloween Flea from 11 to 6 at North Haven’s Twelve Percent Beer Project convenes “30+ local vendors specializing in vintage, home decor, oddities, jewelry, and crafts! There will be food trucks, special drafts and so much more!”

Following a Noah Webster-themed Dictionary Day edition of “What’s in the Library?” at the New Haven Museum from noon to 4 yesterday, Yale’s Beinecke Library takes up the torch from 1 to 4 today with a display of “original manuscripts and publications documenting Noah Webster, the Webster family, and their networks, including family papers, records related to the groundbreaking American Dictionary of the English Language (1828), and numerous other publications by Noah Webster.”

From 2 to 6, the third annual Catoberfest fundraiser for A Chance for Love Rescue, “whose mission is to rescue abandoned, neglected, and feral cats,” offers vendors, tarot readings, flash tattoos, raffles, a costume contest and music.
