Legend has it that the parkβs satellite, Charles Islandβto which you can technically walk when the tide is low, though itβs (a) a protected bird sanctuary, with access prohibited from May 1 to September 9, and (b) reportedly filled with poison ivyβis where the accused pirate William Kidd of Scotland, a.k.a. Captain Kidd, stashed some treasure circa 1699.
Though many have searched, it seems none have yet found Kiddβs buried booty. You can only hope its seekers didnβt miss the other treasures Silver Sandsβand its neighbor, Walnut Beachβmore freely give.
