A photo essay.

Autumn’s waxing was a creeping feeling, a slow descent into dark from summer’s bright.
Until two Sundays ago, when the daylight Daylight Saving Time had been saving suddenly dissolved, crossing a psychological threshold in the process. Sunset’s now well under 5 p.m., meaning many 9-to-5ers miss one of autumn’s great consolations: rich golden light illuminating delicate colored leaves, good for easing us contentedly into night.
But not all is lost. In our tree- and lamp-lined city, we can, for a short time longer, enjoy fall’s beauty after dark, when electrified bulbs and diodes become little suns against black skies.
