Father Time

Father Time

Father’s Day is Sunday. If you’re spending it with Dad, here are five ideas for making it count.

On Target
With an axe in one hand and a beverage in the other, splitting wood isn’t a chore at Pine & Iron Axe Throwing, where, as of this writing, Sunday time slots are still available. Kids 14 and over are permitted with a parent or guardian, and guests can bring their own food.

Irish pub The Trinity might be New Haven’s best sports bar. Sunday’s Euro 2020 matches—Italy vs. Wales and Switzerland vs. Turkey, both starting at noon according to Google—will, without any doubt, be gracing most or all of the soccer-loving bar’s 12 TV screens, as might a pair of NBA playoff Game 7s.

Notes of Smoke
Grandfathered in as New Haven’s only smoking-friendly establishment, Owl Shop, which opens at noon on Sunday, offers an indoor/outdoor lounge for enjoying cigars and whiskey with Dad. Or buy him a box to smoke at home and pair it with a bottle from The Wine Thief nearby, which is offering a 15% whiskey discount.

“When I Was Your Age…”
A Family Day at Barcade from noon to 5 means Dad can show the kids what gaming was like back in his day. There’s even a kids’ menu. After 5, the bar goes back to being adults-only.

All In
Between a casino, spa, comedy club and golf course and numerous bars and restaurants—some offering Father’s Day dining specialsMohegan Sun is a safe bet for finding Father’s Day joy. All the better if Dad likes to drive, since the resort maintains an elaborate kart racing track away from the main site, which is itself about an hour from New Haven.
