This Week in New Haven (July 21 - 27)

It’s a little bit country, a little bit rock ’n’ roll.

Monday, July 21
The twinned-up Hi-Fi Pie Fest and Beecher Park Summer Concert Series pick up at 6 p.m. behind Mitchell Branch Library with savory pies for baking/eating and Tyler-James Kelly, who “makes 1970s-inspired country music for the modern world,” on stage.

Where did the lighter fluid come from? What could a banana cost? Is there a carbon monoxide leak in this house? At 6:30 (arriving earlier is encouraged), New England Brewing in Woodbridge holds an Arrested Development trivia night.

Wednesday, July 23
At 6:30 p.m., the next picnic-primed Twilight Concert at the Pardee-Morris House continues with Timmy Maia “singing hits ranging from Nat King Cole to Ne-Yo.”

At 8 in Pitkin Plaza, the Movies in the Plaza series screens the charismatic action thriller Edge of Tomorrow (2014), starring Tom Cruise as an unwilling conscript in a war against an alien threat so formidable it can wield time.

Thursday, July 24
At 8 p.m., Yale Summer Cabaret opens a three-day, four-show run of new play The Interview. “Bureaucracy is exploded in this newly devised piece, set inside the machinery of unemployment. Two prospective job candidates sit in the waiting room of a telecommunications company, readying themselves for the moment that might make everything different: the interview.”

Friday, July 25
At 5 p.m., the New Haven Night Market returns with dozens of popup vendors to go with the brick-and-mortar businesses along downtown Chapel Street. Other attractions and activities include live and DJed music, a tie-dye station, “junk journal”-ing and more.

Also at 5, an exhibit presented by Trash to Fashion, “an organization that produces zero-waste events and teaches people how to turn trash into fashion to reduce pollution and create a healthier environment,” showcases “garments and accessories by New Haven’s top designers and visual artists, as well as new and emerging artists” at 63 Audubon Street.

Also at 5, the 2025 Savin Rock Festival, which “honors the legacy of old Savin Rock Park,” begins in West Haven’s Old Grove Park. “The two-day event features music, rides and seafood—all the ingredients that made ‘the Rock’ famous.”

Saturday, July 26
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., a Cool Runnings Wellness Day Party hosted by beer garden CITA Park “in collaboration with DRYYP Sauna, Solemates New Haven Run Club, and other local wellness vendors” promises sauna and cold plunge sessions, a “community run” at the top of each hour and “refreshments and good vibes.” Attendees are advised to bring a towel, water bottle and appropriate attire, with a changing area available.

From 3 to 8 p.m., the Wings ’n’ Strings Country & Bluegrass Festival promises “a toe-tappin’, boot-stompin’ good time” on the Guilford Town Green. In addition to 10 food and drink vendors and a musical lineup opened by New Haven’s own Goodnight Blue Moon, the festival offers mechanical bull rides, axe throwing, “hillbilly cornhole” and more.

At 7 at Longley’s, it’s Christmas in July, or at least a party themed as such with “beachy Santa and holiday decor,” “festive cocktails and summer specials,” “fun giveaways and games” and live music from local rock cover band Category 5.

Sunday, July 27
At 6 p.m., a supersized bill of ’90s rock hitters at Bridgeport’s Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater features LIVE, Collective Soul, Our Lady Peace and one early-career artist, Greylin James Rue.
