At Three Sheets, cult filmmaker and actor John Waters is the (absent) star of an 8 p.m. trivia night hosted by Weirdo Wonderland owner Eric Bruce. Food and drink specials as well as a popup art show will be served, with themed getups encouraged.
Tuesday, July 15
At 5:30 p.m. at Ives Main Library, “an introduction to preserving your own archives” comes with an overview of the library’s new Memory Lab, which offers tools to “create digital scans of print and photographic materials.”
At 7, hitmaker and eight-time Grammy-winner Beck, who needs no introduction, is joined at the Westville Bowl by the Westville Philharmonic, an orchestra for whom this show appears to be its introduction.
At 8, a more intimate experience at Hamden’s Space Ballroom features “influential Brazilian psychedelic rock band” Os Mutantes, who were founded in the 1960s, and local treasure DJ Shaki, a.k.a. Rick Omonte, who draws from an internationally curated well of deep vinyl cuts.

A show by local party band Rhythm City begins at 5:30 p.m. at Amarante’s Sea Cliff—presumably out on The Deck.

From 5:30 to 7 p.m., a “weekly stewardship” session along the Newhallville section of the Farmington Canal Greenway involves “cleaning, weeding and planting our pollinator garden.”
Friday, July 18
Starting at 10 a.m., the Guilford Art Center’s three-day annual Craft Expo on the Guilford Green convenes “over 170 talented artists from across the nation” selling “unique, high-quality work ranging from pottery and jewelry to textiles and woodwork.” Convening with them are food artisans, live musicians and food trucks.
Also starting at 10 and also lasting three days, St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in Orange hosts a “giant” indoor tag sale full of “electronics, housewares, gift items, collectibles, linens, framed art, books, vinyl records, CDs, toys, seasonal treasures, furniture, and more,” with “many items… new or barely used.”
At City Hall, an opening reception for A Portrait of New Haven – Where We Belong, an exhibition of photos and videos by Chris Randall offering “a vibrant and heartfelt look at the places and spirit that define our city,” begins at 5 p.m.
About 45 minutes north, the Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz starts at 6, offering performances by roughly two dozen acts over the course of three days in Bushnell Park.
Saturday, July 19
At 10 a.m. at the Canal Dock Boathouse, What’s in the Harbor?, a “speaker series highlighting the ecosystems and history of the Long Island Sound,” continues with “an engaging presentation by Jo-Marie Kasinak, Director of Project Limulus at Sacred Heart University, as she delves into the fascinating world of horseshoe crabs in the Long Island Sound. Learn about their unique biology, vital role in coastal ecosystems, and the ongoing conservation efforts to protect them.”
From 1 to 5 p.m., Strange Ways hosts a Summerween Market—a “mini market” meant to conjure Halloween in summer. “Come peruse, shop, and chat with local makers and artists who will be selling in-person.”
At 8, Haven Beer Company in Hamden hosts a local institution: Motown and dance funk band Boogie Chillun, who’ve been at it in one iteration or another since 1991.
Sunday, July 20
At SCSU’s School of Business, a 9:15 a.m. symposium titled “Parks, Pedagogy, and Policy: Ecology as Catalyst for Public Good in the Career of Stephen Collins” celebrates the 50th anniversary of the designation of West Rock Park and the work and legacy of one of its early champions.
At noon in West Haven, the Harugari German-American Club’s annual Bierfest offers authentic German provisions and entertainment.
On three consecutive Sundays starting today from 2 to 7, the New Haven Open Street Festival turns Church Street along the Green into “a car-free playground” featuring bounce houses, basketball games, a “game station,” food trucks, live music, DJs, dancers, local vendors and more.
