A quiet late-summer week nonetheless rings with literal and figurative echoes.
Monday, August 19
BIG|BRAVE’s “massive minimalism,” Spiritual Poison’s “cinematic drone” and Henry Birdsey’s tense, moody soundscapes come to Hamden’s Space Ballroom tonight at 8.

200 years later, a remarkable web of events, including two today in New Haven, commemorates and to some extent recreates a tour the Revolutionary War general Marquis de Lafayette took to great fanfare throughout Connecticut. Stepping off from the Green at 10 a.m., Chris Wigren, deputy director of Preservation Connecticut, leads “a tour featuring places Lafayette would have seen” while discussing “the places no longer standing.” Later, at 5 p.m., the New Haven Museum hosts a “reception with ‘Lafayette’ in person” and, at 6, a lecture by Rob Pierce Forbes “tell[ing] the largely unknown story” of how then-president James Monroe “orchestrated Lafayette’s visit.”
At East Rock Brewing, a 6:30 trivia night tests contestants’ knowledge of Millennial culture, just in time for…

… a handful of generational touchstones coming through Westville Music Bowl this week. Tonight at 7, it’s Blues Traveler, who helped bring the harmonica back for a minute, with Big Head Todd and the Monsters. Tomorrow at 6:30, it’s Gin Blossoms, Toad the Wet Sprocket and the one I’m most nostalgic for, Vertical Horizon.
Friday, August 23
From 5 to 7:30 p.m., Happy Hour in the Plaza returns to Temple Plaza, offering free live music and games to go with food and drink for purchase, this time from Peruvian place Chacra.
Saturday, August 24
From 4 to 7, Hindinger Farm in Hamden hosts the Wango Tango Band, the Street ’N’ Savory food truck, a mobile pub, Moon Rock Cookies and family-friendly entertainment from Pete and Chris Amusements.
Also in Hamden, a 7 o’clock album release show for Shell Games at The Cellar on Treadwell promises “dreamy summer vibes laden with synth-pop ambiance, powerful melodies, and an abundance of raw indie energy” with help from Peäsänt, Brooke Dougan and The Forest Room.
Sunday, August 25
Starting at noon, a Family Day at the Pardee-Morris House offers “colonial reenactors; a colonial-era shop (complete with sutler!); spirited fife-and-drum music; a nationally renowned New Haven Etch-a-Sketch artist; historic herb garden tours and colonial games.” Picnics are encouraged.
