Weather permitting, a Hi Fi Pie event in Beecher Park outside Mitchell Library hosts a pie-baking contest along with a concert by the band John Street.
Tuesday, July 11
The “genre-defying and genre-defining” alternative rock band Metric perform at College Street Music Hall for an 8 p.m. bill opened by the locally rooted, nationally known indie pop twosome Mates of State.

The category seems unfairly wide, but I suppose the challenge of knowing both ’80s and ’90s music well enough to win tonight’s 6:30 trivia competition at East Rock Brewing is part of the fun.
Steelpans make a summer concert extra summery, in this case played by the St. Luke’s Steel Band at the New Haven Museum’s Pardee-Morris House starting at 7.

At 5:30 p.m. in its Hubert Campus Center, Albertus Magnus College hosts a mayoral candidate forum—“a moderated conversation where candidates… will address the concerns and issues surrounding housing and jobs.”
Starting today at 7 p.m., The Legacy Theatre in Branford presents The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!), a “musical comedy revue” featuring “familiar Broadway tunes but with original melodies and lyrics spoofing the shows we all know and love.”
Friday, July 14
The Guilford Art Center’s three-day 2023 Craft Expo—“Connecticut’s premier outdoor juried show of craft”—starts today at 10 a.m. on the town green. “Over 170 modern makers from across the country” convene with their fine artworks and crafts in media from paint to glass to clay to metal to paper to wood and beyond.
From 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Massaro Community Farm in Woodbridge, the farm’s former executive director Caty Poole leads a workshop on getting the most out of a plant that’s “common in the Northeast and often found thriving in poor soil, along roadways and open space hedges”: the elder shrub, best known for its berries but worth knowing for other reasons too.

At 12:30 p.m., The Beeracks, a co-op brewery in East Haven, hosts emo- and alt rock-focused Shoreline Summer Festival, “a full day of music, craft beer, vendors, photo-ops, and more!”
Orange’s similarly named but more family-oriented Summerfest, lasting from 2 to 8 at the town’s High Plains Fair Grounds, features live music, too, but also games, face painting, raffles and a formal corn hole tournament to go with “food, beer and wine.”
From 7 to 11, a double feature at the Strand Theater offers deep cuts Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973) and Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975)—“plus prizes and classic Kaiju trailers!!”
At 8 o’clock at Hamden’s Space Ballroom, a benefit show for Jesse LaBranche, a local musician we’re told has been diagnosed with an aggressive late-stage cancer, features four acts: Rusty Things, Strawberry Cheesesteak, Zombii and LaBranche’s Wolf Harbor bandmate Bobby Dyckman.
At 9, Three Sheets presents the July edition of “Art In The Back…Music In The Front.” The visual art comes from Michelle Beaulieu-Morgan, M.G. Bayona, Kelsey Lloyd and Raheem Nelson, while the music comes from Asher White, Mother Juniper and Alexandra Burnet & The Proven Winners.
