After a first full weekend, it’s the first full week of this year’s Arts & Ideas festival. On the schedule: a catwalk through Ghanaian history and fashion; an experimental Macbeth; dance and cocktail classes; concerts on the Green including Friday night’s starring a native New Havener; and an indoor show led by a 22-year-old jazz prodigy.

Starting at 5 p.m., the annual Branford Festival, centered on the Town Green and lasting three days, offers live music including from Linda Ronstadt and Heart tribute acts; carnivalesque and bakerly treats; American and global cuisine; games, rides and kids’ activities; an artisan marketplace; and a road race on Sunday.
At 7 in the Hamden High pool, artistic swim team the Hamden Heronettes present a “Swimmers Just Wanna Have Fun” water show featuring “spectacular aquatic routines performed in glittering swimsuits to uptempo music.”
Gathering at 7:30 and leaving at 8 from the New Haven Green, the New Haven Bike Party kicks off its next “costume-friendly, SLOW social ride,” this time with a theme of “Rainbow Cows in Outer Space.”
Saturday, June 17
Cars & Coffee, a “vintage car social,” parks outside Best Video from 9 a.m. to 11. “Cars 20 years or older are welcome to take part.”
Several towns mark Juneteenth today. In New Haven, a parade steps off from Stetson Library at 11 a.m. and finishes at noon on the Green, where vendors and entertainers muster for a Juneteenth Celebration. In West Haven’s Brent Watt Park, an 11 a.m. event promises “vendors, music, food and a talent showcase.” And in Hamden, an MLK mural unveiling ceremony at noon outside Miller Memorial Library leads to a wider celebration at 1 in nearby Town Center Park. (It looks like something’s going on in Milford, too, but details are thin.)
From 1 to 4 p.m. outside New Haven’s First Presbyterian Church, Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services presents a craft fair ahead of World Refugee Day next week. “Enjoy international food, handmade gifts & eco-friendly home items. Crafts are sold by immigrant women from Afghanistan, Sudan, Syria & all over the world. Proceeds go directly to the artisans, cash only please.”
“12hrs of Techno,” from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m., is the promise of Euphoria, a 10-DJ dance party at The Beeracks in East Haven.
Starting at 10 p.m. at Nolo, an elaborate party concept combines paint ’n’ sip elements with a “glow art dance party” to ’90s music. Highlights include 300 black lights and a photo booth.
