Thursday, January 12
Serving “Sparkling Cyanide,” RJ Julia Booksellers in Madison hosts an Agatha Christie Bingo Night starting at 6.

At 6:30 in the Yale School of Architecture, Columbia architecture and African American studies professor Mabel O. Wilson asks “Can we forget?” in the context of the University of Virginia’s Memorial to Enslaved Laborers, which she helped create.

Friday, January 13
As Martin Luther King, Jr. Day approaches, the Greater New Haven Peace Council stages a noontime reading of King’s 1967 “Beyond Vietnam” speech on the second floor of City Hall. You can also hear the original audio (and read a transcript) here.

If it’s been a while since you touched The Untouchables (1987), you can do so tonight in Yale’s Humanities Quadrangle, where the Treasures from the Yale Film Archive series screens it in cinephile-approved 35mm.

Saturday, January 14
From 10 a.m. to 1, an Open Enrollment Fair at Whitneyville Cultural Commons in Hamden helps people get in under the wire for Obamacare’s 2023 open enrollment period, which ends January 15.

A New Hope, the Star Wars film that started it all, gets a 1 o’clock screening at Fair Haven Library. “Popcorn and soda are on us!”

Starting an hour later in a library not far, far away (Hagaman Memorial in East Haven), corporate and inspirational speaker Greg Dwyer discusses “The Importance of Focus in a World of Distraction.” The former illusionist “will show you how to create real magic in your life and get more of what you desire.”

As of publication, it looks like there’s exactly one ticket left for a 6 p.m. murder mystery dinner party at Gather East Rock.

Locally rooted, high-flying, funky-jammy Frank Zappa tribute The Z3 headline an 8 p.m. bill at Space Ballroom opened by local rock band Self Serve.

Sunday, January 15
The Peabody Museum’s annual two-day MLK Celebration begins today at 12:30 at the neighboring New Haven Museum, where “an afternoon of inspiring family programs celebrating Dr. King’s life and legacy” spans “stirring fables, anecdotes, and stories” told by a trio of storytellers and “an interactive performance of cultural dance and drumming” courtesy of Ms. Hanan’s Dance and Beyond.
