With an eye toward Tuesday, Yale’s Beinecke Library offers “Words for the Nation”—“a special set of readings by Yale faculty, students, and staff of prose and poetry from the collections that speak from the past, in the present, to the future.” The virtual program, starting at 4 p.m. on the library’s Youtube channel, includes “works by Langston Hughes, Rachel Carson, Alexis de Tocqueville, Robert Penn Warren, and James Baldwin, and selections from the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.”

Tuesday, November 3 – Election Day
From 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Connecticut voters register their choices for president, congressional representative, state senator, state rep and/or registrar of voters. Find your polling place here, and familiarize yourself with a sample ballot here.
Wednesday, November 4
Depending on the way yesterday went, you may need today’s installment of the Yale University Art Gallery’s Mindfulness and Art series. Led by Anne Dutton, the 2 p.m. Zoom call continues this season’s theme of “explor[ing] light and luminosity in select works from the collection.” Free; register here.

The next Rare Whiskey Dinner at Oak Haven Table & Bar (932 State St, New Haven; 203-915-9413) promises tastings of five small-batch high-end bourbons “while feasting on a menu composed of Connecticut farm vegetables and proteins”—plus “multiple raffles,” “discounted pours off the rare shelf” and “all the proper precautions due to COVID-19.” Tickets go for $177, with tax and gratuity included. 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, November 5
Courtesy of local booker/producer Manic Presents, guitar-and-drums twosome The Front Bottoms, whose dense, witty lyrics and lovable blend of indie and emo have helped rack up well over 100 million Spotify plays, come to South Farms in Morris, Connecticut, for a 6 p.m. socially distant concert. The venue is nearly an hour away from New Haven, and reserving a lawn plot for two costs $150 plus fees. But if you’re craving large-scale live music replete with serious pandemic precautions, this is your ticket.
Friday, November 6
Closer to home—inside your home, actually—you can support New Haven-based nonprofit Continuum of Care, which
works to “enable people who are challenged with mental illness, intellectual disability or other disability, and/or addiction, to rebuild a meaningful life and thrive in the community.” The occasion is Rock with Nunz ’n’ Pepin, a virtual but also live music fundraiser featuring Sal Annunziato and Roland Pepin at 6:30 p.m. Registration is free and also required, with an option to buy raffle tickets for $20 apiece.
