This Week in New Haven (September 21 – 27)

F all arrives, and, in terms of event programming, so does Yale.

Tuesday, September 22
Tonight’s installment of the Innovator’s Toolkit, “a series of free workshops focused on key skills for innovation” organized by the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale, digs into “design thinking,” which, among other things, “focuses on identifying products, services, and strategies worth creating by uncovering and understanding the true needs of individuals.” The workshop begins at 5:30 p.m. and is led by Kelly Wyche, an MBA candidate at the Yale School of Management. Free.

Movies in the Plaza—Pitkin Plaza, off Orange Street north of Chapel—returns for another outdoor screening. This one features Ghostbusters—presumably the 1984 original, though it could be the 2016 reboot instead. Free; 8 p.m.

Friday, September 25
At 4 p.m., quarterly publication The Yale Politic hosts a public Zoom conversation “about youth in politics and the road to November” with Minnesota senator, recent presidential candidate and Yale alum Amy Klobuchar.

Common Ground High School, Urban Farm and Environmental Education Center is tweaking its annual Feast from the Fields fundraiser into a three-day “hybrid virtual and limited onsite experience.” Starting at $50 for adults and $25 for youth up to age 13, a ticket gets you a “feast box” containing “complete recipe kits for dishes by KAWIT! Filipino BBQ, Firehouse 12 and Sanctuary Kitchen,” with live virtual cooking lessons given by the chefs themselves; samosas from forthcoming Indian restaurant Pataka; dessert by Common Ground chef Faythiya Williams; flowers from the school’s farm; and a student cookbook. The first live cooking session, featuring “a live cocktail (or mocktail) and vegan food pairing lesson with Matt Scialabba of Firehouse 12 and Audrey Nefores of Common Ground,” airs tonight over Zoom from 6 to 7:30.

Sunday, September 27
The weather’s turning, but not so quickly to rule out a few rounds of open-air ping pong or cornhole. You can do that from noon to 3 p.m. in Temple Plaza, while resting assured that “paddles, bean bags, etc. are cleaned before and after each party’s use to assure a safe and clean event.” Free.
