August: when the most relaxed season of the year achieves its deepest calm; when the leaves on the trees ripen to their richest greens; and when we at Daily Nutmeg turn our gaze to stories we didn’t write.

Tomorrow commences our fifth annual Summer Reading Month, highlighting compelling authors and works with strong local ties. Each Tuesday for the next four weeks, we’ll profile a writer, then excerpt that writer’s work on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
