The Yale Science Diplomats’ next Science in the News talk is about “The Molecular Macarena: Coordinating Your Body’s Movements.” Starting at 6:30 p.m. in Mitchell Library (37 Harrison St, New Haven; 203-946-8117), a slate of researchers—Emma Carley, Adriana Cherskov and Lauren Stone—discuss proteins, a.k.a. “highly diverse molecules that shimmy, shake and find partners for their tightly coordinated dance” as they “perform nearly every task in your body.”

Today and tomorrow, popular throwbacks proceed in reverse chronological order at the Shubert Theater (247 College St, New Haven; 203-562-5666). Tonight at 7:30, it’s Purple Reign, a long-running Vegas-proven spectacle “featuring blistering performances by renowned Prince tribute artist, Jason Tenner,” and friends ($41-61). Tomorrow night at 8, it’s The Temptations, starring original member Otis Williams ($49-89).

Friday, May 24
Starting a day later, it’s a similar two-day situation at Toad’s Place (300 York St, New Haven; 203-624-8623), only the acts are more local, more numerous and divided by intensity but not by era. Tonight, a Springtime Spectacular show features a dozen “of your favorite local rock bands” on two stages. Tomorrow, a Metal Mayhem showcase features 10 of “your favorite local metal bands” on two stages. Both shows start at 6:30, with admission costing $12 at the door or $10 in advance.

Now that the series has concluded, you can drink to HBO’s Game of Thrones with Crawl of Thrones, a bar crawl that’s more tricked out than Jaime Lannister’s gilded armor. (Or, if your views on the series are like mine, you can drink to the nuanced characterizations, earned plot twists and overriding feeling of consequence in seasons one through four—and drink away sour memories of later seasons filled with plot armor, incompetent military strategy, dialogue ranging from trite to nonsensical and characters doing things they wouldn’t and shouldn’t.) The tricks include LED bracelets and color-changing cups; the ability to choose your house and win prizes in exchange for show knowledge or great costumes; food and drink specials; and “DJs at most venues,” which include Christy’s, Te Amo Tequila, Karaoke Heroes, Elm City Taphouse and Partners. The crawl begins at 2 p.m. and goes ’til 10, with individual week-of tickets costing $39.99 and, at the time of this writing, group discounts available.

CT Classic Chevy’s annual Memorial Day Weekend Car Show, perhaps a classic in its own right after 25 years, has vintage cars rolling into Quinnipiac University’s North Lot (275 Mt. Carmel Ave, Hamden) as early as 8 a.m. and staying as late as 3 p.m., when awards are handed out. Organizers aren’t too restrictive, allowing “stock, modified, custom muscle, street rod, pro street and special interest” vehicles as long as they hail from 1986 or earlier, with per-car registration costing $10 in advance or $12 at the gate. For spectators, admission costs $4, or nothing for children under 12.
