Alder Aaron Greenberg is hosting a public meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. at John S. Martinez School (100 James St, New Haven), where United Illuminating “will offer an update on [environmental] remediation efforts at the English Station power plant”—the vast, abandoned, polluted industrial complex rising from the middle of the Mill River.

The bar room at Elm City Social (266 College St, New Haven; 475-441-7436) is becoming “an Irish pub for a week” in the lead-up to St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday. Yesterday there was a 2 p.m. Middleton Irish Whiskey educational session; today there’s a 5 p.m. educational session featuring Roe & Co. Irish Whiskey; tomorrow is a “Guinness retro pint glass giveaway day”; and on Sunday, the holiday itself, there’s a special Irish brunch menu starting at 10 a.m.

You could say science is about questions, and a lot of those are flying ahead of tonight’s beer science presentation at East Rock Brewing Company (285 Nicoll St, New Haven; 475-234-6176): “Love beer and want to learn more about fermentation? At 7:30 p.m. in Woolsey Hall (500 College St, New Haven), the New Haven Symphony Orchestra presents Mozart’s Paris, whose program “showcas[es] the string family of the orchestra” via Mozart’s “Paris” Symphony No. 31 as well as works by Prokofiev, Barber and Haydn. “Internationally and critically acclaimed violin soloist” Tai Murray joins as a featured guest, with NHSO’s venerable music director William Boughton holding the conductor’s baton. $15-74.

Starting at 10 p.m. inside The State House (310 State St, New Haven), an Ides of March Burlesque Show—followed by a ’90s Dance Party—takes several good stabs at entertaining us, with “burlesque, aerial art, hoops and games”; a “costume contest with prizes for the best toga or most accurate gladiator outfits”; and, of course, that ’90s dance party. $13.

Pinned & Sewtured—a.k.a. the excellent and idiosyncratic puppetmaker Anatol Marmol-Gagne, who writes of her work, “I make puppets…. and then I play with them”—presents a Puppet Cabaret & Variety Show at Cafe Nine (250 State St, New Haven; 203-789-8281), where live music is promised and guests are encouraged to “expect the unexpected.” The show starts at 9 p.m., with tickets going for $10.

You can party the holiday away at the new Regal Beagle (in the old Anna Liffey’s), Cask Republic, Jack’s Bar and Steakhouse, The State House and Cafe Nine.
And while you can’t find stout and whiskey, you can probably find music about stout and whiskey at the latest New Haven Record Riot, which opens at 9 a.m. for $3 or 7 a.m. for shoppers who want early access and are willing to pay a $7 cover for it. Happening in the Annex YMA Club (554 Woodward Ave, New Haven) and lasting until 4 p.m., organizers promise “another mad round of vinyl digging” through “over 45 tables of LPs, CDs, 45s and memorabilia… from the most common to the rarest.”
