To get current on that, look to New Haven’s weather vanes, though you may have to squint. Curvy golden arrows point the way above United Church on the Green and Yale’s Silliman College. A sharper black version spins over the New Haven Museum’s octagonal cupola.

A copper owl weathered to a seafoam patina perches over Sterling Memorial Library, above a compass rose that swirls like the guard of a decorative French sword. A couple miles away, along the border with Hamden, a Dachshund, colored like a matte penny, rises over a rose of its own.
Back downtown, attached to an arrow with a head like a heart, are a pair of Victorian gentlemen, one with top hat and umbrella, the other with bowler and cane. They shoot the breeze over Yale’s Timothy Dwight College, while being good enough to let the rest of us catch the drift.
